Biography
Erik-Jan Bulthuis is a SEO consultant and works on customers like: Hewlett Packard, Free Record Shop and Wegener.
It took a while to become who I am. In my teenage years, I always had plans to make money fast. The fact I’m still working for a boss proves that I didn’t succeed, but I’m still looking for the best ways to make money – for me and the clients of Onetomarket.
After high school, I went to university to study Econometrics (also called Operations Research). I’ll not bore you with describing what this is all about, but I can tell you that I learned to think in a statistical and systemic way. This is one thing I still use every day with working on project management and studying the algorithms of Google.
A few years later, I found out that building websites wasn’t that hard. And in fact, there’s good money to be made in PHP programming. I built all kind of content management systems. After doing this for a few years, my old interest in making money evolved into the website building. Wasn’t it possible to make more money with the same number of websites I had to make? Yeah, it was.
I started to dive into the marketing aspect of building websites, instead of only looking at the technical issues.
Together with two friends, I started a Dutch blog about online marketing and web development called Netters.nl. Somewhere at the beginning of 2007, I was invited to apply for a job as SEO consultant within Onetomarket, based on the things I wrote on my blog.
And now this is who I am - an SEO consultant with:
- an experience in (mostly server side) programming
- commercial ideas for more sites than I can visit
- statistical knowledge to analyze all your data
By the way, I do like B2B SEO because it’s more challenging to define KPIs and measure results. I also run a English blog on B2B online marketing at JustErik.com.
