Where does linkbait come from?
The article that the concept of linkbait probably be the first called in is written by Nick Wilson and dates from 2005.
The term “bait” ( “aas” in Dutch) is already used in a textbook on copywriting from 1933, the “Robert Collier Letter Book”:
