Research conducted by Forrester has shown that the online travel industry keeps growing. The research, in which more than 60,000 Americans participated, also showed a decline in the number of people who book their holidays online.
The number of people who booked a holiday online decreased with 9%, compared to 2005. The reason why the turnover has increased, inspite of this decline, is because the people who booked online spent up to 50% more than the year before.
According Henry Harteveldt, analyst at Forrester, online travel agencies need to change the way they approach customers:
"Visitors are tired of having to spend 2 to 3 hours to find a flight or hotel. Online travel agencies haven't changed. Visitors give their travelling dates and a location and get a long list of destinations. The online travelling industry needs to innovate."
